The next WVTA Board meeting is scheduled for
January 7, 2008 at 0900 hours at the Association office for any of the
membership that would like to attend.
The WVTA has been busy during the past two
months with meetings seeking support for the Legislative Agenda with the
number one issue being the Plan B improvements. We recently met with
Governor Manchin, sharing with him that we
have lost 60 Troopers to resignations and dismissals since 2005 and that
this is
a loss of $4,500,000 that the State has lost for the training of each
Trooper, only to have our Troopers working for some other agency. This
is not good business. We anticipate another pay raise during the 2008
session and will again be working on the On-Call issue. We also had
meetings during this month concerning the purchasing of new cruisers.
The WVTA opposed the idea of purchasing Chevy Impala's as a single
replacement cruiser and shared with them the reasons why the Chevy
Impala would not meet all of the needs for every
Trooper. This is a decision that needs to be made by the department to
meet the specific needs.
The Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, held
at the Capitol will be on Feb 25, 2008, at 1230 hours. This is a good
opportunity for available Troopers to come to the Capitol and to speak
with our legislators on the problems that continue to cause our fellow
Troopers to seek employment elsewhere.
