I was called the other day by someone that I consider a close friend and whom I have known for many years. We have spent countless man hours on investigations together when we used to work together but we do not have an opportunity to speak much now due to our current assignments. He informed me that he had received the ballots and learned that I was running for the position of president. He then asked me what my goals or intentions were for the WV Troopers Association. My reply initially consisted of a short answer. "You've known me for years and know where I stand on issues" and kept my answer brief only talking about Legal representation for our membership on every level of discipline. I explained that have a goal of implementing legal counsel for our membership that is available for consultation 24 hours a day so our membership could have immediate answers to difficult questions that arise during critical incidents.

I was then reminded by my close friend that not everyone in the field has had an opportunity to work with me and know where I stand and that I should get my views out to the field.

My goals for the West Virginia Troopers Association would be to continue in the direction that we have been focusing which include the following:

Legislative Issues-

Plan B improvements, On-call compensation, Salary increases, and equipment and resources related to our duties.

Administration -

To have a continued open line of communication with the administration and to be a voice for the membership with concerns that arise within the field that sometimes would create a hostile work environment if brought up within the field. Ex(quotas, poor equipment, lack of resources, etc).

Due Process -

This is the most important issue that I would like to improve. I feel that we need to have someone to call to answer legal questions during critical incidents, grievance procedures, policy and procedure issues. With over seventeen years of law enforcement experience I have seen the criminals of our communities receive more due process than those of us who continue to protect and serve our communities. This is very troubling to me to see a fellow law enforcement officer be treated as a criminal because someone felt that the officer was rude during an arrest.

Personal Issues-

I have no personal gain by volunteering my time to the West Virginia Troopers Association. I will continue to volunteer my time to the issues of the West Virginia Troopers Association either as a member of the Executive Board, the Board of Directors or a member of the Association.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions on where I stand.
