Legislative Update
As most of you already know the West Virginia State Police did not fair well with out proposed legislative agenda regarding the Plan B improvements and on call pay et al…
The On Call Pay bill died in the House of Delegates without much explanation as to why.
The Plan B (55-50) bill died in the Senate as it was not placed on the agenda as was promised by those in control of the bills.
These bills did not die due to lack of effort on the part of the WVTA, and CWA. President Merrill, Joe Adams, Elaine Harris and the Board of Directors worked very hard to keep on top of our proposed legislation. It is simply difficult to get things passed when certain political figures lie to us and fail to do as they had promised. We will address these individuals at a later time.
On a better note… Thanks to Governor Manchin we did get a 3.5% pay increase across the board. This means a 3.5% increase of your base salary WITHOUT the $1200.00 cap that was originally proposed. This is a 3.5% pay increase, not incentive pay. *This matter does have one final step that it has to take this week during the legislative budget meetings, but the Governor has assured us that it is a done deal.
Please remember… The WVTA is now a PAC (Political Action Committee). Therefore, we can now publicly endorse or oppose ANY CANDIDATE. I am sure those legislators that blatantly lied to us during this legislative session will be given some notice and attention by the WVTA when their re-election time comes around. Promises that were un-kept will not be forgotten. On the reverse, those that support the WVTA and our proposed legislative improvements, and have fought with us, will also not be forgotten as well.
